Security Shield Computer Virus?

By admin Posted in: Mcafee

I just went to a website and the security shield virus downloaded itself (yet again) with out me even clicking anything to download it. I have had it a few times over the past few years and each time it seems to be getting harder and harder to get rid of. I currently use malwarebytes, my security essentials and also have McAfee on standby for virus protection.
Today I was unable to get rid of the virus as it disabled everything, including system restore, even microsoft office, I ran Malwarebytes in safe mode and it still did not get rid of it. The only way I have been able to get rid of it is by opening up another user account and performing a system restore in that account.
What I want to know is how do I check to make sure it is completely gone? Does anyone have any recommendations on programs to use to make sure it has completely disappeared off of my computer?

You can down load the Windows Malicious Software Removal Tool (which arrives monthly with Windows updates usually) and use that;http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-sec… it shifts most things.
Sounds like your security set up is not so hot, uninstall McAfee as in my experience it slows your computer down, gives lots of interruptions and messages, and does not seem to be very good these days.
Use MSE as it works well with Windows firewall;http://www.microsoft.com/security/pc-sec…
Have only one antivirus installed, two at the same time can cause problems.
Malawarebytes is about the best thing available at the moment, but you must have the latest version of it and manually update it daily if you have the free version or it will be out of date and therefore of little use;http://www.malwarebytes.org/
You can also run and on-line scanner which you do not have to install as it runs through your browser, keep it in your bookmarks;http://www.eset.com/us/online-scanner/
The common ways for infections to get on your computer are out of date browsers / Java / Adobe / lack of Windows updates etc.
Use this on line scanner weekly to make sure that they are all up to date, keep this in your bookmarks as well, it only takes 3 minutes to run ;http://secunia.com/vulnerability_scannin…

Use Avg Anti Virus Free Edition and then do Full computer scan. Avg rocks and when a virus attacks your computer it immeditalty tells you and blocks the virus from coming on your computer.

You should try this trick to disable your virus: download the executable of your anti-spyware by entering its url in address bar, for example http://www.2-viruses.com/downloads/spyhu… or http://www.2-viruses.com/spdoc.exe.

I think the trick for you removing Security Shield is to update the antimalware program. It looks like Security Shield has some new files that need to be removed and added to the definitions of whatever antimalware program you are using… http://www.spywareremove.com/removesecur…
Just found this out when I attemtped to remove Secuirty Shield from my brothers netbook. I had it a few week ago and was able to easily remove it but not his is some newer version with added files burried in the registry. Still, use safe mode when you scan but make sure the antimalware program is updated if they provide the update for detecting Security Shield.

Scan your computer again using Malwarebytes. If it says your computer is clean then you shouldn’t be be too worried for now. However, you probably got infected by the rogueware again because you were only using the free version of MBAM. The free version can remove that “Security Shield” but it does not stop infections from getting to your computer. It’s only a cleaner. If you want real-time protection, get the MBAM pro version. That’s the solution to your recurring problem. If I were you, I would get the lifetime license for only $25. This is aside from using a secure browser like Firefox with the following add-ons:
    NoScript
    Web of Trust
    AdBlock Plus
PS: Can you please email me the link to the website where you got infected by that fake “Security Shield” program? I’m going to try to intentionally infect my computer and test if my setup is totally secure. I have Firefox, MBAM and Avast by the way. I’ve been wanting to infect this setup but I cannot.
