Why Does New Computer Come With Pre-installed Norton Or Pre-installed Mcafee?

By admin Posted in: Mcafee

I don’t like this habit of shoving norton or mcafee down our throats when we buy new computer. I would prefer that new computer come without any antivirus at all and the buyer himself decides which one to install. i hate that mcafee icon everytime a brand new computer is turned on.

Because the computer manufacturer made a deal with the anti-virus company to use the software. In many cases it is only a trial version and you would still have to buy a full version if you wanted to keep it. So in other words, not only are you removing unwanted software, but the computer manufacturer didn’t pay anything to put it there since you can download most trial versions for free anyway. But having the software on the computer allows them to claim that you get a free trial version of with the computer. It is a big selling point for salesmen even if it is a worthless bit of software.
I recently bought a laptop from a well known electronics store. It took me 2 weeks of file removing to remove the junk software I didn’t need and install the few programs I did need. The extra “free” software that the store gave me is still unopened.
But it isn’t just the computer manufacturers.
Watch when you install some of the other programs that you probably need. Several programs are installing extra browser taskbars. Once you accumulate enough of them, it can slow your browser to a crawl. And the funny part is that the current versions of the major browsers don’t need the extra taskbars. If you forget about this, when you update, the update will try to install the taskbar add-on to the browser. Some updates do it automatically and don’t allow the option to not install the extras. And then there is the fact that you can’t remove the software, you can only disable some of it. The only sure method of removal is to manually remove it.
I’m seriously tired of deleting software that isn’t really needed.

I typically buy from MacMall for almost all my computer gear. There selection is amazing.. Always a amazing shoping expierience. In the past I bought an USB fan and a wireless keyboard and they shipped it really late. I called the 877-578-9306 number and they refunded me $31!!
    I absolutely love them

Not sure what all this ranting is about best answer etc.
Anyway, the manufacturers nearly always have a deal with 3rd party companies and plug this as either Value added software or similar.
most is 30 day trial and I would agree, as much as it annoys me it is actually very lucrative, people often purchase as there’s no trip to the shops but I would love the option on power up to remove them all and have a “virgin” operating system.
Personally, it’s one of the reasons I switched to linux some 7 years ago, I simply don’t have these issues now and have no desire to go back.

no, the best answer comes from the ASKER because THEY’RE the one ASKING THE QUESTION. now yahoo is telling me i left the caps lock on =(. anyway u should only not pick best answer if theres no best answer to pick (all the answers are crap). and the level doesnt matter, people ******** work to get up there.
anyway, for the actual question, they do it so that your worried about viruses and pay them loads of money when you don’t have to; you can just download the free microsoft security essentials.
