Will ’simple Green’ Ruin The Finish On My Car?

By admin Posted in: SAP

I have a fairly new car (two years old), and havent been cleaning it like i should. I got sucked in to a ‘custom finish’ to protect the paint job on my car (metal flake black, i know, the hardest color to keep clean).
I have been told to just wash it with water and it will be fine.
I have been parking under trees, and with pollution and road grime, along with the sap, it is almost impossible to get off.
A while back, we had to clean our cat’s drool off the hood of my wife’s car (some nice person decided to stomp on his head, fracturing his jaw and skull). We sprayed simple green on the hood and it came right off.
Can i do a 50/50 mixture of simple green and water and not ruin the finish protecting my car?
thanks in advance.

Simple green is a non abrasive cleaner and should not damage any paint job on a car.

I agree with “Ramon”: if the finish has been badly neglected, let a pro detail shop clean & seal it with the right products that won’t damage the clearcoat. “Simple Green” probably won’t hurt it. Another way fanatics clean-off road film and old wax is a bucket of water & kerosene that removes everything without hurting the finish – but then it needs to be sealed, waxed or whatever you choose soon.

Simple green works great, use it straight out of the bottle for best results, I also suggest the red scotch-brite pads for the really stubborn bits.

”T cut” might be an option or if available to you Simonize wax polish. Either way try them on an out of sight area of your paint work, door edges etc.

No, no, no and super no. There are products for car washing by hand. Go get some at an auto parts store or the automobile section of Walmarts or other ultra super markets. If you have tree sap and other contaminants on the finish and wish to bring the a nice finish I recommend first you take this vehicle to a detail shop. I gather that your interest in vehicles is less than sterling and your involvement in the proper care and feeding of this car is very low. Let the professionals do their jobs. Once the finish has been cleaned, buffed and waxed then it is maintenance time. Newer wax products tend to have relatively short term lives and must be reapplied three times a year as a minimum. In the Spring, mid-Summer and Fall. If you park under trees because you have no other choice this wax should protect from the sap to some degree. Try to avoid the trees, buy a cover for the car (but I think this might be more than you are willing to do), and once a year go back to the detail shop. This business also does an excellent job the interior materials of the car. Modern cars have a clear coat finish of paint that can be easily damaged. Use the proper car wash products and proper wax products. Seems as if you have a very nice car. Taking care of it is an investment of the resale value. Best of luck.
