Will You Get Arrested For Having Downloaded Software On My Gadgets?

By admin Posted in: Gadgets

You see, we are planning to migrate to Canada and I have watched people getting arrested in the airports for having pirated DVD’sin their ppossession Will we get in trouble to? I just want to know so we can eliminate the chance of us getting arrested. I don’t want my family wasting all our money, time and effort just so we can get caught on the airport.

Do you believe you’re above the law? What makes you question if you’d not be in the same situation as others, if caught with illegal items?

The only way that you and your family can be arrested is if you do not own the original DVD’s. Of course, downloading movies of P2P File Sharing Sites is illegal, but if you backed up the DVD’s yourself and you own the originals, it should be no problem. Good luck on your migration!

Pirated software is against the law, I don’t think there is anyway of getting around it. If you destroy the pirated software and find the same files as freeware or on public domain, you should be fine.
If you can’t do that though, you will just have to buy the official software or shareware.

If your not selling them then its ok

If you’re really that worried, copy it all to a removable hard drive and mail it to your new address. Worst that would happen is the drive would get impounded if they even bothered to examine it.
When I travel to the US rather than risk Homeland Security harvesting confidential client data I keep on my laptop, I clear the laptop before I fly and when I get to the US I download all my stuff over a VPN link. Then before I leave I dump my data back over the VPN link and reset the laptop to it’s default setup. This is fine for documents but would make for a really long download for movies/audio.
    Regards,
    TH.
